India hosts first major multilateral agriculture-policy gathering in Indore, Madhya Pradesh as part of BRICS Presidency 2026.
The BRICS Agriculture Working Group sessions (10-12 June 2026) in Indore, Madhya Pradesh represent the first major multilateral agriculture-policy gathering hosted by India under its 2026 BRICS Presidency. This event signals India's growing soft power and diplomatic standing in global food governance. India assumed BRICS Presidency in 2026, continuing the annual rotation system. BRICS was formally established in 2009 as BRIC, with South Africa joining in 2010. Current BRICS members include Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, along with expanded members Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and UAE. The gathering focuses on agricultural policy dialogue, food security, and sustainable farming practices. The BRICS Secretariat is not permanent but rotates annually with the chair. This meeting demonstrates India's leadership role in shaping global agricultural policies and strengthening South-South cooperation in food production and distribution.
