ISRO honored with AIAA's highest award for Chandrayaan-3 lunar south pole landing breakthrough.
The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) has honored the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) with its highest honor, the Goddard Astronautics Award, for the agency's groundbreaking Chandrayaan-3 mission and achievements in developing world-class satellites, launch vehicle technologies, and space exploration. India's Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Vinay Kwatra, received the award on behalf of ISRO. Chandrayaan-3 made history in August 2023 by becoming the first spacecraft ever to successfully soft-land near the unexplored lunar south pole, making India the fourth country in the world to land on the moon after the US, Soviet Union, and China. ISRO's upcoming missions include the first uncrewed test flight of Gaganyaan human spaceflight program in Q3 2026 featuring humanoid robot 'Vyommitra', and GISAT-2 geo-imaging satellite launch. India currently accounts for about 2% of the $450 billion global space economy, expected to rise to 8% by 2033.
