Nirmohi Akhara petitions Supreme Court demanding appropriate representation in Ram temple trust management and full implementation of 2019 Ayodhya verdict.
The Nirmohi Akhara, one of the principal parties in the historic Ayodhya dispute, has moved the Supreme Court seeking: (1) Appropriate representation in the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra (temple trust) management structure, and (2) Complete implementation of the 2019 Supreme Court verdict that awarded the disputed land to the deity (Ram Lalla). Background: The 2019 Supreme Court judgment in Ayodhya case (Hindustan Times v. Nirmohi Akhara & Ors.) was a landmark constitutional decision resolving a dispute spanning over 60 years. The court awarded the entire 2.77-acre disputed site to Ram Lalla (the deity represented by the Hindu community) for construction of a Ram temple, while offering alternative land to the Sunni Waqf Board. Nirmohi Akhara, a Hindu religious institution with historical claims to the site, was not awarded direct property but had asserted its religious and historical interests. Current issue: The trust's composition and governance structure, established post-verdict, apparently excludes adequate Nirmohi Akhara representation despite its long-standing religious claims. This raises issues about: (1) Proper implementation of Supreme Court orders, (2) Institutional governance of major religious sites, (3) Rights of religious institutions in shared sacred spaces, (4) Constitutional protections for minority religious interests, and (5) Temple trusts' management transparency. The petition reflects ongoing governance challenges in administering India's most politically sensitive religious site. Exam angle: Ayodhya verdict implementation, religious institutions law, trust governance, institutional autonomy, constitutional protections.
