Cochin Shipyard Launches 7th Anti-Submarine Warfare Vessel for Indian Navy

On July 29, 2026, Cochin Shipyard Limited launched INS Machilipatnam, the seventh anti-submarine warfare shallow-water craft, at its facility in Kochi. This represents another significant achievement in India's indigenous warship building programme, demonstrating the country's growing naval indigenisation capability. The vessel is part of the ASW Shallow Water Craft (SWC) project, designed to enhance India's submarine detection and counter-submarine warfare capabilities in coastal and riverine waters.

India has been progressively reducing its dependence on foreign warship acquisitions by strengthening domestic shipyards.
