PM Modi Convenes Extended CCS Meeting Over Seafarer Safety and Energy Chains

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired an extended meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to evaluate rising maritime security threats in the Black Sea and West Asian maritime corridors. The meeting prioritized protecting Indian commercial seafarers and securing national energy supply lines.

Escalating drone attacks, missile strikes, and naval blockades in the Black Sea and Red Sea have disrupted global shipping routes. With thousands of Indian seafarers serving on foreign-flagged commercial vessels operating in these volatile waters, risks to merchant personnel and oil supply disruptions have intensified.

The CCS directed coordinated efforts involving the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and the Indian Navy. Interventions include expanded maritime security operations under 'Operation Sankalp', enhanced escort mechanisms, real-time tracking via the Information Fusion Centre–Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), and diplomatic engagement with conflict zone authorities.
