House panel calls for dedicated satellite to monitor forest fires in Himalayan region

A parliamentary standing committee on science and technology issued a formal recommendation on August 8, 2026, calling for India to develop and launch a dedicated satellite system for forest fire monitoring in the Himalayan region.
