Reliance and Rolls-Royce Partner for 5th-Gen Fighter Jet Engines

Reliance Industries Limited and British aerospace giant Rolls-Royce announced a major strategic partnership to jointly design, develop, and manufacture sovereign indigenous combat jet engines in India. The deal aims to power the country's upcoming fifth-generation fighter jet program, marking a crucial step toward self-reliance in advanced military propulsion systems and defense technology manufacturing.

Historically, India has faced significant technology transfer bottlenecks in gas turbine development, with indigenous projects like the Kaveri engine struggling to meet operational requirements for modern combat jets. The manufacturing agreement ensures total intellectual property ownership within India, complete source-code sharing, and domestic production of specialized single-crystal turbine blades and high-temperature alloy components critical for stealth operational capabilities.
