Govt push for star ratings on electric two-wheelers faces industry resistance

The Central Government's proposal to introduce mandatory star rating energy efficiency labels for electric two-wheelers has encountered strong pushback from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers. The Ministry of Power and Bureau of Energy Efficiency aim to extend standardized energy ratings to electric vehicles to inform consumers regarding battery efficiency, charging consumption, and operational range performance.

The Standards and Labelling Scheme was originally launched under the Energy Conservation Act of 2001 to empower consumers to make informed choices regarding energy-consuming appliances.
