EAM Jaishankar Visits Moscow for 27th India-Russia IRIGC-TEC Meeting

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Moscow for an official visit from August 23 to 24, 2026. At the invitation of Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, Jaishankar co-chaired the 27th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC). The visit highlights sustained high-level engagement between both nations amidst evolving geopolitical dynamics in Europe and Asia.

The IRIGC-TEC serves as the principal institutional mechanism at the ministerial level overseeing bilateral trade and economic relations. Established after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the commission monitors ongoing joint economic projects, addresses bilateral trade imbalances, and facilitates smooth commercial exchanges. The dialogue takes place in the backdrop of expanding energy purchases, payment system integration, and strategic transport corridor developments like the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC).

Key topics during the 27th session included expansion of non-energy exports from India, operationalizing the Rupee-Rouble mechanism, and long-term supply arrangements for crude oil and fertilizers. Bilateral trade reached an all-time high exceeding $65 billion in recent financial cycles, primarily driven by crude imports. Discussions also covered joint development of maritime routes, including the Northern Sea Route, and strategic bilateral investments.

This visit reinforces India's multi-aligned foreign policy balancing ties with major global powers while securing its energy security.
