India-China Military Commanders Set for North-East Talks After High-Level Dialogue

Days after National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing, India and China are set to convene a fresh round of Corps Commander-level military talks in the Eastern Sector. The upcoming meeting aims to address unresolved friction points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the North-Eastern sector, focusing on border stabilization and military disengagement.

The high-level military interaction builds upon bilateral commitments made during the Special Representatives (SR) dialogue framework. Since the 2020 border standoff, military and diplomatic channels have engaged in iterative discussions through the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) and military commander meetings to maintain peace along contested border sectors.

The Corps Commander level discussions involve senior military officials from the Indian Army's Eastern Command and China's People's Liberation Army Western Theatre Command. Key geographic zones under negotiation include strategic passes, patrolling points, and buffer zones established during previous disengagement phases. Managing peace along the 3,488-kilometer-long LAC remains a primary operational priority.
