PM Modi Highlights India-France Strategic Bilateral Links for 'Year of Innovation'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the expanding dimensions of the India-France Strategic Partnership as both nations observe 2026 as the 'India-France Year of Innovation.' The initiative focuses on joint research, critical technologies, clean energy transitions, and cultural exchanges, highlighting long-standing diplomatic alignment between New Delhi and Paris.

Strategic ties between India and France were formalised in 1998, establishing one of India's most resilient bilateral partnerships. Unlike many Western powers, France has consistently respected India’s strategic autonomy and supported its permanent membership ambition at the UN Security Council, alongside deep collaboration in defense manufacturing, nuclear energy, and space exploration.

The 2026 Innovation roadmap targets high-tech collaborations in artificial intelligence, supercomputing, green hydrogen, civil nuclear energy (including the Jaitapur project), and advanced defense co-development under 'Make in India.' The partnership also expands maritime security cooperation across the Indo-Pacific through joint naval exercises like Varuna and trilateral dialogues.

France remains one of India's most dependable strategic partners in Europe.
