India Rejects UN Map Depicting Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin as Disputed

Cartographic misrepresentation and ambiguous border depictions on international platforms have long been a focal point of geopolitical friction between India and China. While China illegally occupies Aksai Chin and claims Arunachal Pradesh as 'South Tibet' (Zangnan), India maintains that both regions are integral constitutional parts of the Indian Union, supported by historical treaties, effective local administration, and continuous sovereign governance.

India was among 164 member nations that voted in favour of the UNGA resolution on September 4, aimed at rebalancing global cartographic representations and promoting equitable data representation. However, the MEA emphasized that supporting general cartographic fairness does not imply consent to incorrect representations of India's international borders. The disputed graphic used ambiguous demarcation lines separating Aksai Chin from Ladakh and inaccurate markings in the Northeast.

This diplomatic clarification highlights the supreme importance of territorial sovereignty in international law and cartographic standards.
