Meta to Share Child Abuse Material Reports Directly with Indian Agencies

Tech giant Meta has agreed to streamline its cyber intelligence sharing by reporting instances of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) directly to Indian law enforcement agencies. This operational change will significantly reduce transmission delays in taking down illicit content and apprehending offenders operating across platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.

Previously, Meta routed all flagged CSAM content to the United States-based National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). NCMEC then processed and forwarded India-specific reports to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), creating administrative delays. Under the new protocol, automated and verified cyber tip-offs will reach Indian authorities directly, enabling immediate intervention by state cyber police units.
