Andhra Pradesh has declared a drought in 21 of its 26 districts for the 2026 Kharif season, affecting 283 mandals.
The Andhra Pradesh government has officially declared a drought in 21 out of the state's 26 districts for the 2026 Kharif season. The decision follows recommendations from a high-level Committee on Drought which held a meeting on September 30.
By declaring the drought early, the state government bypassed the traditional October 31 deadline. Within the 21 affected districts, a total of 283 mandals have been classified as "severely affected". The timing of the announcement has drawn criticism from the opposition YSRCP, which questioned the delay in declaring the drought.
