In Brief
Limits Form 7 applications to 10 per elector during claims and 5 a month during continuous updation of electoral rolls.
The Election Commission of India has capped Form 7 applications, which are used to register objections to proposed entries or deletions in electoral rolls, to 10 per elector during the claims-and-objections period. Additionally, electors are now limited to submitting five Form 7 applications per month during the continuous electoral roll updation process. This policy decision has been introduced as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls takes place across various regions. For instance, in Karnataka, the ongoing Special Intensive Revision has witnessed a massive volume of submissions, recording 110,654 applications seeking objections to proposed entries or deletions. By placing these caps, the Election Commission aims to regulate the objection-filing process during periods of intense voter list scrutiny and updates, ensuring more structured administrative handling of claims.
