Senior corporate executive Prasanna Kumar Acharya has been appointed as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a prominent Navratna Public Sector Enterprise operating under the administrative control of the Union Ministry of Coal.
NLC India Limited, formerly Neyveli Lignite Corporation, plays a pivotal role in India's energy sector through thermal power generation, lignite mining, and expanding renewable energy portfolios. Headquartered in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, the CPSE is integral to supplying base-load electricity across southern Indian states.
Acharya brings extensive administrative experience in energy infrastructure management and financial planning. Prior to this appointment, he held key leadership roles overseeing mining projects and green energy transition initiatives aimed at diversifying NLCIL's energy capacity toward solar and wind power.
Appointments to top leadership posts in Navratna CPSEs are standard high-probability questions in SSC CGL, Banking (IBPS/SBI), and Railway exams. For UPSC aspirants, NLCIL's expansion connects to GS-3 topics involving public sector undertakings, coal gasification, and clean energy transition targets.
