BEML Wins ₹5,400 Crore Order for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project

Public sector enterprise BEML Limited (formerly Bharat Earth Movers Limited) secured a major commercial contract worth ₹5,400 crore for the indigenous design, development, and manufacturing of high-speed trainsets for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor, popularly known as India's first bullet train project.

Executed by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the 508-kilometer Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor utilizes Japanese Shinkansen technology under a bilateral financial and technical partnership. The involvement of domestic manufacturers like BEML marks a decisive shift toward indigenizing high-speed rail technology under the Make in India initiative.

The ₹5,400 crore order involves constructing multi-car trainsets capable of operating at test speeds exceeding 280 to 320 kilometers per hour.
