In Brief
Establishes bamboo plantations on 255 hectares of forestland previously used for illegal poppy cultivation in Manipur.
In a significant environmental and law enforcement breakthrough, the forest department in Manipur has established bamboo plantations across 255 hectares out of 307 hectares of forestland that were previously under illegal poppy cultivation. According to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), these newly developed plantations span across three hill districts of the state. This transition forms a core part of the state's ecological restoration and anti-drug campaign, aiming to eliminate illicit poppy cultivation by converting cleared forest patches into sustainable, green bamboo ecosystems. The initiative not only rehabilitates ecologically degraded forestlands but also provides a sustainable livelihood alternative, aligning with broader national goals of forest conservation and environmental sustainability.
