In Brief
Mandated 20% reservation and upper age relaxation for former Agniveers in Delhi Fire and Prison department services.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor cleared a proposal offering a 20% quota for former Agniveers in recruitment for the Delhi Fire Service and the Prison Department. The decision includes relaxation in upper age limits and physical efficiency tests under amended state recruitment rules, aligning with the Union Government's rehabilitation policy for short-service military personnel.
The Agnipath Scheme, launched in June 2022, recruits youth into the Indian Armed Forces as 'Agniveers' for a four-year tenure. Upon completion of service, up to 25% of each batch is retained in regular military cadres, while the remaining 75% transition to civilian careers with a financial package called the 'Seva Nidhi'.
The new recruitment notification grants an age relaxation of three years for general former Agniveers and five years for the first batch of Agniveers. Additionally, horizontal reservation mechanisms are applied in uniformed state services across paramilitary forces, state police forces, and municipal emergency response departments.
This policy decision enhances employment security for military veterans and strengthens inter-agency coordination between armed forces training and civil administration safety units. Candidates should focus on Agnipath scheme structure for Prelims MCQs and evaluate veteran reintegration policies, public security manpower, and labor economics for Mains civil service papers.
