Initiates a 6% stake sale in Hindustan Copper Ltd via Offer for Sale to raise approximately ₹3,000 crore.
The Union Government has announced a public divestment of up to a 6% equity stake in Miniratna Central Public Sector Enterprise Hindustan Copper Limited through an Offer for Sale mechanism. The strategic equity sale aims to generate approximately ₹3,000 crore for the national treasury, supporting the Union Government's fiscal management objectives.
Managed by the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management under the Ministry of Finance, the disinvestment process utilizes the Offer for Sale route on stock exchanges. OFS provides listed company promoters an efficient, transparent mechanism to divest shareholding directly to institutional and retail investors without the prolonged timeline required by Follow-on Public Offers.
The government fixed the OFS floor price at ₹514 per share, representing an 11.6% discount compared to the prevailing market valuation. Established in 1967, Hindustan Copper Limited remains India's only vertically integrated copper producing enterprise, operating under the administrative authority of the Union Ministry of Mines to process domestic copper ore reserves.
Disinvestment strategies and Public Sector Enterprise classifications are core topics in Indian Economy syllabi. UPSC and Banking exams frequently test DIPAM functions, CPSE categorizations (Maharatna, Navratna, Miniratna), and mechanisms like OFS versus IPOs. This update also links directly to India's national strategies for securing critical industrial minerals.
