FSSAI mandates official vegan logo display on certified vegan food products under amended Vegan Foods Regulations.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced an official vegan logo to identify certified vegan food products in India. Under the amended Vegan Foods Regulations, approved vegan products must display the logo, featuring a green square, a stylized 'V,' and a sprouting leaf symbol representing plant-based origin. This regulatory development aims to protect consumers following vegan diets from inadvertent consumption of non-vegan products and support India's growing vegan food market. FSSAI is the apex food regulatory body in India established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. It is responsible for setting food safety standards, regulating manufacture, storage, distribution, sale, and import of food products. The vegan certification will require manufacturers to ensure no animal-derived ingredients or products tested on animals are used. This comes alongside India's first export of botanical-infused ready-to-cook millet functional foods to New Zealand, showcasing India's food processing sector growth.
