US Deported 414 Indian Nationals in Q1 2026, Govt Informs Rajya Sabha

The Union Government informed the Rajya Sabha that a total of 588 Indian nationals were deported from the United States and European nations during the first quarter (January to March) of 2026. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar provided the detailed breakdown in a written response, revealing that the United States alone accounted for 414 deportations during this three-month period.

The surge in deportations follows tightened immigration enforcement, border management protocols, and anti-human trafficking measures in western nations. Many deportees were found residing without valid documentation, overstaying visas, or attempting illegal entry through undocumented transit routes, commonly known in irregular migration parlance as 'donkey routes'.

Official figures submitted to Parliament indicate that foreign authorities execute deportations under bilateral consular readmission agreements. The Ministry of External Affairs works alongside state governments to verify nationality, issue emergency travel certificates, and dismantle illegal manpower recruitment agencies operating unauthorized overseas employment rackets across states like Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat.
